How To Clean Your Window Wells | Task Steps
Step 1 – Inspect the window well
- Inspect your window well for debris that would hinder emergency entry or escape in case of a fire or flood.
- You’re going to want to make sure that the window itself can work properly. Crawl out of the window through the window well and up into the yard. This is the process that will happen if any law enforcement or firefighter were to need to rescue you in an emergency.
Step 2 – Maintain the window well
- If you noticed any obstructions within the window well, like mass piles of leaves or trash that have blown down within, you’re going to want to clean it out.
- The easiest way is to get down in there with some gloves and a garbage bag, but the main goal is to clean any debris out of the well area.
- If you want to eliminate this work in the future, check into installing a window well cover. Several different types can help keep debris out while still allowing sunlight into your basement.
