How To Inspect Your Water Softener

It’s always good to keep up with the maintenance of your water treatment equipment to ensure you & your family are ingesting and bathing in clean water. Keep reading to learn how to inspect your water softener!

This is a Health Task!

Some studies suggest that hard water can cause health issues, a good reason to make sure that your water softener is always at the required salt level.

This is a Preventative Maintenance Task!

Depending on where you live and your water source, you can encounter different minerals in the water system. These minerals can eat through metal and copper pipes, causing pinhole leaks that can cause damage to drywall, wood, and metal beams. A water softener is a device that removes the minerals that cause the water to be hard. Salt is the biggest reason your water softener is doing its job fixing your hard water issues. That’s why you should maintain the salt level in the softener.

This is an Energy Efficiency Task!

Hard water usually means more water to clean dirt and soap off clothes, bathing, and general cleaning. Hard water puts a strain on hot water tanks, using more energy to heat the water, resulting in higher energy costs.

Tasks can be done by: Homeowner, Handyman, Plumber, or Water Softener Provider

Task Steps

Step 1 – Inspect Water Softener

  • You should be able to visually determine if your water softener needs more salt. Just open your brine to look inside.

Step 2 – Maintain Water Softener

  • Fill the tank to the fill mark; if you do not have a fill mark, most companies recommend about 10 inches from the top.
    • Supply List & Costs: Salt pellets
